Traffic rules in Italy
Drivers are required to have safety vests in their cars in Italy, Austria and Germany. Cars are required to drive on dipped headlights during the day on Italian motorways and country roads (outside built-up areas). The maximum speed is 90 km/h on state roads and 130 km/h on motorways. There’s an extensive network of filling stations and almost one in two sells LPG. In general, in the major towns and cities parking is only permitted in the spaces provided. Short-stay car parks, the majority of which are Pay & Display, are marked with a blue border. These are complemented by specially designated car parks and underground parking in most places. Free parking can often be found outside towns and sometimes there’s a shuttle bus into the centre.

Meraner Land Express: Munich–Schenna–Munich

The Meraner Land Express operates every Wednesday and Sunday from 15 March to 8 November 2026, providing a direct connection between Munich and Schenna. Modern coaches take you from Munich Central Bus Station directly to your accommodation in Schenna without any changes.

Südtirol Express: From Switzerland to Schenna

The Südtirol Express operates every Saturday from 11 April to 31 October 2026, connecting Switzerland with South Tyrol. The route travels via locations including St. Gallen, Wängi, Winterthur, Zurich and Landquart, continuing through the Venosta Valley to Merano.

An organised connecting transfer takes you and your luggage from the coach stop in Merano directly to Hotel Starkenberg and back to the coach on your departure day. This transfer is included in the fare.

Bicycle and hiking shuttle from Merano to Garmisch-Partenkirchen or Munich

Fahrtwind & Zion Shuttle offers a seasonal passenger and bicycle transfer from Merano to Garmisch-Partenkirchen and Munich via Bolzano, the Brenner Pass and Innsbruck.

Base Camp Dolomites provides secure storage for suitcases, backpacks, bicycles and sports equipment at Bolzano railway station.

The storage facility is located directly at the station on platform 1 and is open daily from 8:50 am to 6:30 pm. No advance reservation is required.
